Toledo Sweeps Weekend Home Matches

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo men's tennis team dominated all three of its opponents on Friday and Saturday, en route to three home wins. On Friday, UT bested Illinois-Chicago 6-1, before defeating Wright State 7-0 and Youngstown State 7-0 on Saturday. The Rockets improved their record to 5-4 with the wins and have now won four straight matches.
On Friday at Laurel Hill Tennis Club, the Rockets took out a worthy Illinois-Chicago team 6-1, the only points in the loss column against UT for the weekend.
At third doubles, Chris Clark and Jay Miller won their third match in a row, defeating Eric Fey and Danai Samuriwo 8-4. Clark also won at second singles 6-3, 6-4 while Miller won at fourth singles 6-2, 6-0.
Mohammed Al Nabhani came back after losing the first set to Ivan Kovalev to take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at first singles.
On Saturday at Laurel Hill, the Rockets won the first of two mathces on the day 7-0 over Wright State.
Al Nabhani won his fifth consecutive match at first singles, defeating Lance Koetter 6-3, 7-6 (4). Clark also continued to roll, winning 6-3, 6-3 at second singles over Nick Camalleri.
In the nightcap at Westowne Tennis Club, the Rockets beat up on Youngstown State 7-0.
Clark capped off his 4-0 weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 win at first singles over Scott Kathery. Jay Miller also had a dominating performance at sixth singles, defeating Sarantis Karousis 6-0, 6-0.
"We reached our goals for the weekend," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "We had some nice competition and got pushed around a bit but our guys got through it and improved their games. We had many parents in town for the weekend and they had a great time, plus we were able to rotate a lot of players and get many different guys on the courts."
Toledo will look to continue its four-match winning streak next weekend with three away matches. On Saturday, the Rockets take on Indiana State at 1 P.M. and Eastern Kentucky at 5 P.M. before going up against Kentucky on Sunday at 6 P.M.
