Toledo Loses at Youngstown State, 13-5

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Toledo (12-24) suffered a 13-5 loss at Youngstown State (19-15) on Tuesday night at Eastwood Field.
Mike Ellis (0-1) made the start for the Midnight Blue and Gold and was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in four innings of work.
Junior C Nick Lance (2-for-4, run scored) and sophomore RF Joel Visser (2-for-4, run scored) led UT with two hits apiece.
Ten different Penguins pounded out 14 hits against four Rocket hurlers, including four for extra bases. Justin Banks (2-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored), J.D. Hannan (2-for-5, RBI), Charles Schultz (2-for-5, RBI, 2 runs scored) and Josh Page (2-for-4, 2 RBI) provided a bulk of the offense for YSU with multi-hit contests and the foursome combined for seven of its 11 RBI.
Brian Boone (1-0) was credited with loss in a planned rotation, throwing three scoreless innings.
The Penguins led the contest 1-0 after three innings, before exploding for 11 runs in the middle three frames, including five in the sixth, to take a commanding 12-3 lead. YSU finished off its scoring with a single run in the seventh.
Toledo scored its initial run in the fifth inning on a RBI single by junior Jason Watson. They registered their other two runs the following frame on run-scoring singles by junior Dan Stong and sophomore Ryan Laude.
The Rockets returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
