Toledo, OH - Toledo (14-28) dropped both ends of a non-conference twinbill (6-3, 3-2) to MAC East Division leader Kent State (21-15) at Scott Park this afternoon.
The Rockets' best chance for victory came in the second game when UT held a 1-0 lead through four innings thanks to senior DP Vicki Nelson's RBI double in the third frame.
The Golden Flashes took a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning though on 3B Jodi Stevens' two-out three-run homer on a 3-2 pitch from junior Kim Pettitt (5-16).
Freshman 1B Tracy Lehman brought UT within a run in the bottom of the seventh when she drilled a solo homer over the right-field fence. Lehman was 2-for-3 in each game today to raise her season batting average to .253 to rank third on the team.
The opener saw Kent State tally runs in each of the first four innings en route to a 6-1 advantage. Nelson accounted for the Rockets' lone run with a blast to left field in the first inning for her third homer of the season. She later singled in another run in the fifth when UT closed the gap to 6-3.
Toledo returns to action on Sunday, April 25 with a trip to Muncie, IN for a MAC doubleheader vs. Ball State. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. EDT.
