Toledo Drops 9-3 Decision to IPFW at Scott Park

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo baseball team (8-20) lost its fourth-straight contest Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 9-3 decision to IPFW (15-21) at Scott Park.
The Mastodons jumped on UT freshman starter Matt Meinberg early, scoring eight runs on six hits in their first at-bat to take a commanding lead. A three-run home run by Ryan Keena provided the most damage to the Rockets.
Toledo cut into the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by junior 2B Matt Ruth, scoring senior RF Aaron Rouser, who led off the inning with a double.
IPFW finished off its scoring with a run in the top of the fifth, before UT freshman 1B Nate Pretzlaf drilled a solo home run, his second of the season, in the bottom half of the frame.
Toledo could muster only one more run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by junior C Dan Ruth to make the final 9-3.
Seniors Chris Arvay and Shawn Hurst, along with Matt Ruth led the Rockets' offensive attack with two hits apiece. Sophomore 3B Dan Stong had his 20-game hitting streak snapped finishing 0-for-4 at the plate.
Meinberg (1-2) took the loss for Toledo in his second start of the season. Sophomore Mike Wagner and Shawn Hurst each pitched scoreless innings of relief to close out the contest.
Eric Lambert (1-4) earned the complete-game win for the Mastodons by allowing 10 hits and three runs with no walks.
Toledo returns to action tomorrow (April 15) vs. Wayne State. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
