Rockets Fall to Jacksonville State, 16-3

Jacksonville, AL - Robby Goodson finished 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle as Jacksonville State (5-7) claimed a 16-3 win over Toledo (0-8) in college baseball Tuesday night.
Jacksonville State finished the game with a season-high 15 hits. Freshman Jon Clements (1-0) earned the win after allowing just three hits over three innings and was one of four pitchers as the Gamecocks allowed nine hits. Toledo's Greg Gompf (0-1) lasted just 1 2/3 inning, allowing eight runs and issuing four walks.
Jacksonville State took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Rockets tied the game in the top of the second inning on a two-run single by Chris Arvay. JSU then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of second. The Gamecocks added three in the third, one in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, while Toledo plated a run in the top of the seventh. Shawn Hurst finished 4-for-4 to lead the Rockets.
The Rockets play at Birmingham Southern on Wednesday.
