Oxford, OH -
Toledo outgained Miami in total yardage and came through with several key defensive stops, but could not overcome four turnovers in a 23-16 loss to the Redhawks in a nationally televised game on Tuesday night.
Miami scored the go-ahead touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter, a one-yard run by Luke Clemens, and survived two sustained Rocket drives that failed to generate the tying score for Toledo. Toledo's last chance came with just over one minute to play when quarterback Bruce Gradkowski's 10-yard completion to Scooter McDOugle on fourth down to the Miami 24-yard line fell 14 yards short of a first down.
Gradkowski completed 23-36 passes for 203 yards, but also threw an interception and was sacked four times. Toledo also lost three fumbles, the last leading to Miami's winning score.
Wide receiver Lance Moore caught nine passes for 104 yards and one touchdown. His first catch of the night put him in first place on Toledo's all-time career receiving list, passing Donta Greene's previous mark of 188 receptions.
Toledo fell to 6-3, 5-1 in the MAC, while Miami moves to 6-3 and 5-1 in league play. The Rockets play at Northern Illinois next Tuesday. A loss would knock Toledo out of contention for the MAC West Division title.
