He finished second on the team in innings pitched (62.1) and strikeouts (32) and tied for second in starts made (nine). He appeared in 12 games sporting a 1-4 mark with his lone victory coming against West Division regular-season champion Ball State in a complete-game effort.
Hurst also appeared at third base or as UT's designated hitter this past season. He saw action in 27 games, making 21 starts hitting .284 with a home run and 12 RBI. Among his offensive highlights included going 3-for-4 with a season-high four runs with two RBI vs. Hillsdale (Apr. 29). He also went 2-for-3 with a collegiate-best three RBI at Rollins (Mar. 10).
The 15-member Academic All-MAC team includes four student-athletes from Ball State and two each from Akron, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Toledo, Kent State, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan each had one member on the team.
A total of 40 student-athletes met the criteria for the team. To qualify for the academic All-MAC accolade, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the matches. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
