TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Brian Jones threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns as
Toledo beat Central Michigan 44-17 Saturday night.
Jones threw TD passes of 40 and 11 yards to Andrew Clarke as the Rockets
(6-3, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) dominated the first three quarters, taking a
44-3 lead.
The Chippewas (4-6, 2-4 MAC) scored two late touchdowns. Kent Smith scored
on a 3-yard run with about six minutes to play and then threw a 5-yard
touchdown pass to Nick Thompson with about three minutes to play.
The Rockets held Central Michigan to 284 total yards, including 71 yards
passing. Three quarterbacks combined to finish 9-for-31 with two interceptions.
One week after he rushed for a MAC-record 377 yards, Robbie Mixon was held to
35 yards on 10 carries.
Aston Martin rushed for 60 yards and a 1-yard touchdown on six carries for
Toledo. Quinton Broussard rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown, and Trinity
Dawson also scored a rushing touchdown. Carl Ford caught seven passes for 80
yards.
Toledo kept itself alive in the MAC West Division race. The Rockets are 4-1
in the division, behind Bowling Green (5-1) and Northern Illinois (6-0). Toledo
still has games against Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.
