TOLEDO, OH - After letting its 4-0 lead slip away, Toledo (15-13, 3-3 MAC) parlayed a five-run seventh inning into a 9-5 victory over Adrian College (4-14, 2-1 MIAA) this afternoon at Scott Park.
Sophomore SS J.D. Foust led the Rockets' attack with three hits and three RBI as all but one Rocket collected a base hit on the day.
Junior LHP Ian Baltzer (1-1) picked up the win in relief of freshman RHP Rob Shackleton, who started and held the Bulldogs scoreless over the first five innings before tiring in the sixth.
The Rockets held a 4-0 lead through five innings, but Adrian rallied with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
However, UT's first five batters reached base in the bottom of the seventh and all came across to score. Redshirt freshman C Mike Meridieth led off with a single to right field and freshman RF Sean Dobson walked. Junior CF Tony Miller drove in Meridieth to tie the game. After Miller stole second base, Foust laced a two-run single to left field. Foust then scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error by Bulldog C Derek Casper, while sophomore 1B Roger Hernandez plated Hurst with a single to center field.
The Rockets will return to action on Friday at Scott Park with a MAC doubleheader vs. Marshall. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
