In game one, Rocket senior Kristy Kassotis and Flyer hurler Dana Campbell each threw eight innings of scoreless ball before each team plated a run in the ninth. Toledo got on the board when sophomore Deanna House led off the inning with a single, and later scored on an error. The Flyers evened things at 1-1 in their half of the ninth when UD shortstop Angie Barney brought in pinch-runner Monica Munsey with a sacrifice fly.
Toledo plated the eventual winning run in the 10th, when freshman second baseman Vicki Nelson doubled home senior catcher Laurie Nagel, who had singled and stolen second. Kassotis (4-5) put UD down in order in the 10th for the 2-1 victory. She limited the Flyers to six hits and fanned a season-high 11 batters. Campbell got the loss, despite only giving up one earned run and striking out six.
The Flyers (15-14) took game two 4-2 behind freshman sensation Ashlea Hoheimer's 10th win of the season. The Flyers scored all of their runs in the fourth off UT starter Colette McMasters (4-6). After Barney reached on an error by Toledo shortstop Tracy Riepenhoff, UD first baseman Erin O'Shea singled. Megan Koester got on via an error by the first baseman Deanna House to load the bases. Hoheimer and Stephanie White reached on back-to-back fielder's choices as Barney and O'Shea each beat out throws to the plate. With the bases still loaded, Erin Wiedemann singled in White and Hoheimer.
Toledo picked up a run in the fifth, with a single by House, a fielder's choice and a double by junior left fielder Laurie Linton. The Flyers escaped further damage as Linton was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple a split second before a second run scored, for the third out of the inning. The Rockets got another run in the seventh on three consecutive one-out singles and a fielders choice. But Hoheimer got Linton to fly out to center to end the game.
Toledo is now 12-14 on the season, and remains 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Next up for the Rockets, another non-conference doubleheader as UT hosts Wright State on Thursday, April 5. First pitch from Scott Park is at 3:00 p.m.
