April 10, 2001

Box Score

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (19-14) scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings today to rally for a 2-1 victory over Oakland (4-24) at Scott Park.

Rocket starter Ian Baltzer (2-1) earned the victory, allowing just one run and six hits in his first complete game of the season.

UT tied the contest in the eighth inning on freshman C Mitch Maier's third hit of the game, a hard-hit groundball which scored senior LF Andy Stetka. Junior CF Tony Miller was thrown out at home on the play by Oakland 2B Erik Crossly who had kept Maier's hit from leaving the infield.

In the bottom of the ninth, junior 3B Mike Meinhart led off with a single off Golden Grizzlies' reliever Adam Sokoll (1-4). Meinhart advanced on a wild pitch and moved to third on junior RF Jay Juras' groundout to first base. Redshirt freshman DH Shawn Hurst was caught looking for the second out, but sophomore SS J.D. Foust's chopper right in front of home plate scored Meinhart with the winning run.

Maier led the Rockets' nine-hit attack with three base hits to raise his average to .410, while Stetka and Foust each notched two hits. Stetka also stole three bases in the contest to give him 11 on the season.

Toledo returns to action again tomorrow with another non-conference game at Scott Park vs. IUPU-Fort Wayne. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
