Box Score

Bowling Green, OH - A six-run second inning lifted the Bowling Green softball team to a 7-1 win over arch-rival Toledo Tuesday afternoon. The game, the first half of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader, was played at the BGSU Softball Field.

Toledo (10-8, 0-1 MAC) scored its lone run in the second inning on an RBI double by junior rightfielder Danielle D'Amore, scoring senior shortstop Tracy Reipenhoff, who singled earlier in the inning.

D'Amore and junior third basemen Kalika Stavroulakis led the Rockets with two hits apiece. The Rockets had five of their eight hits in the first two frames.

The Rockets, who have lost three in a row, had their opportunities throughout the contest squandering eight baserunners.

UT had the first scoring threat of the game, with back-to-back-to-back singles in the top of the first inning off BG starter Jessie Milosek. On the third single, which came off the bat of senior catcher Laurie Nagel, Falcon centerfielder Jen Domschot gunned down Stavroulakis at the plate.

Then in the third, UT had the bases loaded with no outs and were unable to plate any runs.

Junior Colette McMasters (3-3) started for UT, but lasted only two innings, as she allowed six runs on seven hits. Freshman Cortney Winslow pitched an impressive final four innings, limiting the Falcons to one run on three hits, while registering four strikeouts.

BGSU (11-10, 1-0 MAC) freshman Jody Johnson got the win in relief of Milosek, with three innings of shutout ball. Johnson allowed three hits, walked one and struck out two. Milosek surrendered one run on five hits in her four innings of work.

The teams are scheduled to return to action for a second Tuesday afternoon clash.
