Softball: Toledo Falls to Ohio State, 3-1

Toledo, OH - The Toledo softball team lost a tough battle to in-state opponent Ohio State, 3-1, in game one of a doubleheader at Buckeye Field.
Junior Colette McMasters (3-4) took the loss for the Rockets. She limited the Buckeyes to six hits, while fanning four. OSU's Kristi DeVries did not allow a hit in 3.2 innings of work in relief, striking out four of the 11 batters she faced to pick up the win. Her record improves to 10-3
The Rockets were led on offense by freshman Vicki Nelson, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Laurie Nagel and juniors Kalika Stavroulakis and Crystal Shank, each collected one hit for the Midnight Blue and Gold.
OSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by Stacy Roth.
Toledo answered in the top of the fourth, using three hits to tie the score. Nelson lined a single up the middle scoring Nagel, who doubled to left center to open the inning. After a single to left field by Shank put runners on first and second with one out, DeVries came in and stopped the Rocket rally.
OSU added two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Sarah West double off the wall in left center to make the final, 3-1.
The Rockets square off in game two with Ohio State at 4:00 p.m.
