Toledo-Kent State Quotes

Toledo Head Coach Stan Joplin "You have to give Kent State a lot of credit. They played well and came up with all the hustle points."

"The last five or six minutes of the first half really set us back. We couldn't score when we had some shots and we were careless with the basketball. Our defense in the first half was good but our turnovers killed us. We had some shots to close the gap in the second half but they just didn't fall."

On his team's shooting slump:

"During this stretch in the conference where we've been losing, we've had the same open jump shots but they just haven't been falling for some reason. That's been a big part of our game and it's still going to be a big part. Hopefully, we can get this area straightened out a bit."

Toledo Guard Terry Reynolds

On how to get things turned around:

"We just need to play harder and take care of the ball better. We need to pressure the other teams more and play 40 minutes of basketball. You can't beat a good team by playing one good half."

Toledo Forward Greg Stempin

On making good runs but never getting over the "hump":

"We made a lot of good runs in the second half. It seemed like every time we cut into the lead we would turn the ball over and start rushing the offense. There was 10 minutes left on the clock and we were down seven, but we forced shots and rushed the offense. I think that really hurt us."

On how to get things turned around:

"We still have a lot of games left in the MAC. We need to look into playing a bit more up-tempo. I think we can press teams and get easy buckets."

Toledo Guard Nick Moore

On his shooting:

"I need to keep working on it. It's frustrating when I get open looks and I can't hit them."

On how to improve the team's three-point shooting:

"I wouldn't say to stop shooting them totally. It's hard to not shoot a three in the flow of a game. It's just another thing we need to work at."

On his thoughts on what the problem is:

"Your guess is as good as mine. I am still trying to figure it out. When we lost the fourth straight game it kind of swept me off my feet. We just can't let this become a domino effect."

Kent State Head Coach Gary Waters

"Today got a little hectic and I got a little out of control. Sometimes you've got to let the honor come out. There was a heated discussion. Stan (Joplin) and I are close friends. The game was a hard fought game and I knew we had to get down and dirty."

On the play of guard Andrew Mitchell:

"Andrew is a good ball-handler. In high school he averaged 25 points a game. He has handled his role change very well."

On using smaller post players:

"Size never matters. It's all heart. Our smaller post players get down and get after it."
