TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (12-4, 4-1 MAC) let a nine-point second-half lead slip away in its 52-51 setback to Ball State (8-6, 3-2 MAC) tonight at Savage Hall. With the setback, the Rockets saw their school-record 14-game MAC regular-season win streak end -- two short of the MAC record held by Miami.
Patrick Jackson scored the game-winning points for Ball State on a layup with 11 seconds left. After Jackson scored, the Rockets called a timeout with seven seconds to play. Freshman guard Terry Reynolds drove down the lane, but couldn't get off a shot as the ball went out of bounds with three-tenths of a second to play.
The officials couldn't decide if the ball went off Reynolds or a defender, so Toledo got the ball on the alternate possession rule. Senior guard Rory Jones, who scored a team-high 15 points, missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Rockets scored one point in the final 3:08 after taking a 50-45 lead on a layup by Jones.
UT held Ball State to 32 percent (18-of-56) shooting from the field but was able to convert only 21-of-60 (35 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-22 from three-point land.
Also scoring in double figures for UT was senior forward Greg Stempin with 12 points and senior forward Robierre Cullars with 11.
The Rockets will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Northern Illinois.
