TOLEDO, OH - Bob Simon has been named an assistant coach for the Rockets' men's basketball program, University of Toledo Head Coach Stan Joplin announced today.
A 1989 Eastern Michigan graduate, Simon comes to Toledo following nine years at Wayne State, where he served as the associate head men's basketball coach for eight seasons (1991-99) before assuming the reins as the head women's basketball coach for the 1999-2000 season.
"I've known Bob for a long time and he's done a good job at Wayne State," Joplin said. "He was involved in all aspects of Wayne State's program, including recruiting, scouting and game preparation, and he'll continue to do the same for us. Bob's a very hard worker and I'm excited to have him become a member of our program."
During Simon's tenure with Wayne State's men's program, the Warriors captured three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and appeared in one NCAA Division II Final Four. Last year, Simon guided the women's program to their most wins (13) in six seasons and an appearance in the GLIAC Tournament for only the second time in school history.
