Baseball Drops Final Two Games of Four-Game Series to Ball State (April 30)

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo baseball team (16-28, 5-15 MAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Ball State University (27-17, 13-5 MAC) on Sunday, April 30. The Cardinals won the first game, 8-3, and took the nightcap, 5-1.
In the first game, the Rockets scored their three runs in the third. Eddie Ziemke and Tony Miller both walked. Mike Ernst hit a home run to left field for three RBI.
The Cardinals scored three runs in the fourth to tie the game and then scored two in the fifth and sixth innings and scored a lone run in the seventh.
The losing pitcher was Junie Melendez. Melendez (2-5) pitched 6 innings and gave up eight runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out six.
The Rocket's offensive leader was Ernst (1-3, 1 run, 3 RBI, HR).
In the nightcap, the Rocket only run was scored in the bottom of the seventh when Taylor Eckel, who pinch hit for Roger Hernandez, scored on Tony Miller's sacrifice fly to right field.
The Cardinals scored one run in the third and two in the fifth and seventh innings.
Kris Barnswell took the loss. Barnswell (2-4) pitched 6.1 innings and gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out three.
The Rockets travel to Mt. Pleasant, MI on May 5-6 for a pair of doubleheaders with Central Michigan. The first game on both days is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
