Freshman Jessica Cook is Toledo's Female Athlete of the Year after starting her collegiate career with a bang this week. She recorded two double-doubles to help the Rockets start the year with a pair of wins.
On Tuesday at Oakland, Cook tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds in her first-ever game to help Toledo win, 84-72. On Saturday against Wright State, Cook compiled 19 points and 12 rebounds, doing her part in UT's 73-56 win over the Raiders. The Clay, N.Y. native helped the Rockets pull away in their home opener, scoring 10 of her 19 points in the second quarter against Wright State.
Cook is one of just 12 players across Division I to have two double-doubles in two games this season, and she is one of just two freshman to accomplish that feat (Rhema Ogele, Portland State). Cook also became the first Rocket to record back-to-back double-doubles since Kaayla McIntyre did so during the 2018-19 season.
