Sydney Watson

Sydney Watson is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Toledo volleyball program in 2023.

Watson brings a wealth of volleyball playing and coaching experience to the Rockets’ bench. She was most recently a coach for Maumee Bay Turf Volleyball and also spent six years as a private volleyball instructor. Prior to that, Watson had collegiate coaching experience at Youngstown State (2013-14) and Florida Atlantic (2012-13).

As a collegiate player, Watson was a standout setter at Utah (2006-07) and Nebraska (2008-10). She helped Utah win a Mountain West regular season championship as a freshman, winning Setter of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors that season as well. With the Cornhuskers, Watson was a two-time AVCA All-American and All-Region honoree and was the 2008 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. In three seasons at Nebraska, she averaged 9.8 assists/set and helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament each year, including a semifinals appearance in 2008.

Watson also trained with the U.S. National Team in 2007-08, competing at the USA Open both years. She helped the USA Blue Team finish in third place in 2008.

Watson’s husband, Ross, is an assistant coach for the Toledo football program. The couple has four children, Stanley, Wyatt, Colbi, and Lexi.
