Five teams ranked in nation's Top 10 and four individuals ranked in world's Top 10
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's golf team will host the nation's top teams and players at the 18th Inverness Intercollegiate on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 13-15. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Inverness Club, a renowned course that has hosted numerous major golf championships. Admission is free for the event that will consist of 18 holes each day. Tee times will begin off the No. 1 hole each day at 8:30 a.m.
The Inverness Club was founded in 1903, and along with the University of Toledo, served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Inverness hosted the 2021 Solheim Cup in addition to previously hosting four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur. In the future, Inverness will host the 2027 U.S. Women's Open, the 2029 U.S. Amateur, 2033 U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur, 2036 U.S. Women's Amateur, and the 2045 U.S. Open.
Eleven of the 18 programs competing in the tournament participated in NCAA postseason play last year, highlighted by defending national champion Auburn. The tournament field includes eight schools - Auburn, Virginia, LSU, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Purdue - that competed in the 2026 NCAA Championships.
The Tigers are ranked No. 2 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Preseason Coaches Poll and will be joined in the Glass City by No. 5 Texas Tech, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU, No. 17 Oklahoma, and No. 22 Ole Miss. Other schools receiving votes in the poll competing at Inverness are Clemson, Purdue, Virginia, and Wake Forest. Also playing in the tournament are Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, Iowa, Loyola Marymount, Michigan and Ohio State.
The tournament will feature four of the Top 10 players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings in Tennessee's Tyler Watts (No. 2), Oklahoma's Ryder Cowan (No. 6), Auburn's Josiah Gilbert (No. 7), and Texas Tech's Tim Wiedemeyer (No. 10).
Virginia is the tournament's defending champion, with Texas Tech winning the tournament twice and Auburn and Tennessee once each. Auburn's Jackson Koivun captured the individual title in 2024.
The Inverness Intercollegiate will be Toledo's second tournament this fall. The Rockets opened their season on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 by tying for eighth place at Tennessee's Visit Knoxville Collegiate. Sophomore Zane Aiken paced Toledo individually by tying for 13th place at 3-under-par 207. Senior Brooks Pawlak was two shots behind Aiken and tied for 23rd place with a 1-under-par 209.
ESPN+ COVERAGE
A portion of Monday's and Tuesday's rounds can be viewed on ESPN+ with an approximate air time of 1-5 p.m. It will mark the sixth men's golf tournament that The University of Toledo's Department of Communications and Athletic Department have teamed up to televise this event. Since its inception in the 2015-16 academic year, the Rockets have produced events for ESPN3 and ESPN+ in baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball.

THE INVERNESS INTERCOLLEGIATE
The Rockets posted their best two finishes at the Inverness Intercollegiate with a third-place showing in 2011 and a fifth-place standing in 2002. Dugan Murphy fired a five-under par 66 in 2011's rain-shortened event and is the only Rocket to win the tournament.
ELITE GOLFERS AT INVERNESS
Some of the golfers who have played at the Inverness Club during their collegiate careers rank among the best in professional golf. They include major champions Brian Harman (Georgia), Dustin Johnson (Coastal Carolina), Brooks Koepka (Florida State), Colin Morikowa (California) and Patrick Reed (Augusta). Some former Inverness Intercollegiate participants who have played professionally include Ludvig Aberg (Texas Tech), Viktor Hovland (Oklahoma State), Russell Henley (Georgia), Rickie Fowler (Oklahoma State), Hudson Swafford (Georgia), Nick Watney (Fresno State), Graeme McDowell (UAB), Billy Horschel (Florida), Corey Conners (Kent State), Jimmy Walker (Baylor), Alex Noren (Oklahoma State), Hunter Mahan (Oklahoma State), Jonas Blixt (Florida State), Anthony Kim (Oklahoma), Luke List (Vanderbilt), Kyle Stanley (Clemson), Jamie Lovemark (USC), and J.B.
