Junior Bence Bertenyi tied for third place at 1-under par
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's golf team is tied for second place at 7 over par after Sunday's first round of the Inverness Intercollegiate, with junior Bence Bertenyi tied for third place after firing a 1-under 70 for a third-place tie in the individual standings.
Bertenyi registered four birdies in his round, including back-to-back on No. 12 and No. 13 to get to 2 under par. He closed out his round with three straight pars.
Senior Cameron Bozyk and sophomore Harry McArdle are tied for 18th place at two-over par. Bozyk also tied for the team lead with four birdies on the day.
"We played solid golf this morning in some favorable weather conditions," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "We put some shots in areas that we shouldn't have and we need to clean that up. Our guys have shown that they have a good golf IQ on a course that is difficult. We're looking forward to the challenge ahead of us tomorrow."
Iowa shot 1 under par to sit atop the18-team field that includes 11 programs that participated in NCAA postseason play last spring. The Hawkeyes' Andrew Johannnsen leads all individuals at 3 under.
Toledo's tee time times in tomorrow's second round will begin at 12:10 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+ slated to begin at approximately 1:00 p.m.
