Rockets register 5-under-par 835 in event that included eight programs ranked in last year's Top 50
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Toledo men's golf team tied for eighth place on Tuesday in its season-opening tournament of the season at Tennessee's Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The Rockets registered a 5-under-par 835 in the 54-hole event that included eight programs ranked in the Top 50 of last year's Scoreboard Clippd computer rankings.
Senior Cameron Bozyk paced Toledo in today's action with a 3-under-par 67, with junior Bence Bertenyi registering his second two-under par 68 of the tournament. Bozyk registered the Rockets' second-most birdies in the tourney with 10. He registered four birdies and just one bogey in the final round.
Sophomore Zane Aiken paced Toledo individually by tying for 13th place at 3-under-par 207. Senior Brooks Pawlak was two shots behind Aiken and tied for 23rd place with a 1-under-par 209.
"This is a veteran group, even though they're new to our program, and they played like it," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "They're solid decision-makers with a high golf IQ. It was a quirky course that demanded a variety of shots, so their ability to recognize what was called for and execute was vital. This gives us a strong foundation to build upon."
Host Tennessee captured the tournament title at 15 under par after firing a team score of 14-under in today's final round. Chattanooga's Evan Rogers earned medalist honors with a 10-under-par 200.

Toledo will return to action in less than two weeks when it hosts many of the nation's top programs at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 13-15 at the Inverness Club.
