Sierra Pertzborn fires off 12 kills in first match of season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's volleyball kicked off its 2026 season with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-19, 26-24) over Bradley at Savage Arena.
The Rockets (1-0) offense was led by Sierra Pertzborn with 12 kills on a .321 clip. Freshman Audrey Dyas recorded eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage to go along with a team-best three blocks in her collegiate debut. Senior outside Ava Siefke also chipped in eight blocks in her first-ever Toledo action.
Setters Maddy Bach and Janelle Green also made their debuts in a Rocket uniform. Bach recorded 20 assists, while Green tallied a career-best 15 helpers. Sophomore Jessica Costlow had a team-high 17 digs, with junior libero Grace Freiberger recording 15 digs, five assists and two service aces.

"I'm really proud of the team's fight from start to finish tonight. We took an early lead in the first, it was the middle of the second where we made our run, and then it was the end of the third. I liked seeing our battle throughout. Great to have our fans back in Savage. Quick turnaround now to prep for two matches tomorrow and keep getting after it."

Key Moments
- Five straight points from Toledo gave the Rockets an early 6-1 lead in the first set. An ace from Grace Freiberger and a kill from Audrey Dyas put Toledo in front by seven, 17-10, before the Braves rattled off three quick points to get within four, 22-18. Kills from Sophie Catalano and Sierra Pertzborn put Toledo at set point, 24-18, and a termination from Kayla Ozanich secured the set win.
- A quick 5-0 surge with Freiberger at the service line put Toledo in front early in the second, 5-1. Bradley battled back to even the match, 8-8, while both sides traded points. A kill from Dyas and a string of Bradley errors put UT back in front by four, 18-14. Ozanich and Catalano combined for a block to keep Toledo ahead, 21-16. Toledo reached set point, 24-19, thanks to a kill from Pertzborn and took the set win with a block from Ozanich and Pertzborn.
- Bradley took control of the third set with a quick 5-1 lead, but the Rockets battled back behind kills from Ava Siefke and Dyas to even the set, 7-7. After back-and-forth action, Bradley remained in front, 19-16. Catalano and Pertzborn got UT within one, 20-19, but the Braves fired off two quick points to stretch their lead, 22-19. Dyas and Pertzborn tallied terminations to even the set, 23-23, before a kill from Siefke and back-to-back Bradley errors secured the match victory for UT.
