Toledo native will work out at UT and promote the athletics department
TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo and former heavyweight champion boxer Jared Anderson have entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership.
Â
One of the City of Toledo's most accomplished athletes, Anderson will be a UT ambassador, working out in the Savage Arena weight room and the Larimer Athletic Complex, as well as attending Rocket sporting events.
Â
Anderson, a two-time U.S. National Champion as an amateur, is a Scott High School graduate. He signed with Top Rank Boxing in 2019 and quickly established himself as one of the sport's brightest young stars. The 26-year-old Anderson owns a professional record of 18-1 with 15 victories by knockout and has competed on some of boxing's biggest stages, including the MGM Grand, Madison Square Garden and nationally televised ESPN events.
Â
In 2023, Anderson defeated Charles Martin by unanimous decision at the Huntington Center in downtown Toledo to retain the WBC-USNBC and WBO International heavyweight titles.
Â
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to excellence and community pride between UT and Anderson.
Â
"Jared Anderson is a great Toledo success story," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Moreland. "His dedication to his craft, his commitment to representing our city and his passion for inspiring young people make him an outstanding ambassador for the University of Toledo. We are excited to welcome him to our athletic family."
Â
"This is really special to me," said Anderson. "I grew up in Toledo going to games at the Glass Bowl and Savage Arena, so the University of Toledo has always been a big part of my life. To have the chance to officially be part of Rocket athletics is something I'm incredibly excited about. Toledo has supported me every step of the way. I'm proud to represent this city everywhere I go. I can't wait to train alongside the student-athletes, be around the coaches and fans, and cheer on the Rockets. This is home, and I'm honored to be part of it."
Â
As part of the agreement, Anderson will make appearances at select athletic events, interact with student-athletes and serve as a visible ambassador for the University.
Â
The partnership is the first of its kind between a Division I athletics department and an active professional heavyweight boxer.
