Former University of Alabama marketing staffer to drive brand growth, fan engagement and student connection for the Rockets
TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo announced today that Phillip Dunckley has been named Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Digital Advertising and Student Engagement.
Dunckley comes to Toledo from the University of Alabama, where he most recently served as director of marketing & fan experience. He will provide leadership and strategic direction for Toledo Athletics' marketing and promotional efforts, digital advertising strategy, fan experience initiatives, and student engagement programming. His role will be central to driving attendance, strengthening brand visibility, and enhancing the overall game-day and digital experience for Rocket fans.

"Phillip brings a creative, forward-thinking approach to athletics marketing and digital engagement that aligns perfectly with our vision for growth, innovation, and student-centered experiences at Toledo."
Dunckley began his career as assistant director of fan engagement at Western Michigan University in 2021. He joined the athletic marketing team at Alabama in 2022 as assistant director of marketing & promotions before being promoted to director of marketing & fan experience in July of 2025.
Dunckley, who grew up in Lake Orion, Mich., earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from WMU in 2020.
"I'm extremely excited to join the Rockets and return to my roots in the Mid-American Conference," said Dunckley.  "Toledo is one of the top Group of 6 schools in the country with enormous potential for growth. My time at Alabama has given me the tools to help take the Rockets to new heights and I don't take this opportunity lightly. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has had a part in helping me along the way to this point in my career, and I can't wait to become part of the Toledo community and the University of Toledo!
