Samantha Bolding cranks out four hits, reaches base six times over two games
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Toledo softball team dropped a pair of close games in the first day of the UNCW Tournament in Wilmington, N.C. on Friday. The Rockets suffered a 2-0 loss to Army and a 4-3 defeat to host UNC-Wilmington.
In a 2-0 defeat to Army, Katie McDonald threw her first complete game of the season, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. Â The Rockets went up 3-0 over UNC-Wilmington in the nightcap, but the Seahawks rallied for the 4-3 triumph.
Sophomore outfielder Samantha Bolding had a big day at the plate, reaching base six times. She had a pair of hits in both games, with two doubles and two walks.

Toledo will wrap up the UNCW Softball Tournament on Saturday, March 7 against UNC Greensboro and Army.

How It Happened
vs. Army
- Army jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with an RBI single, 1-0. The Cadets added another run in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 2-0.
- Payton Pudlowski led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left and Samantha Bolding drew a walk, but the Rockets were unable to bring home any runs.
- Jenna Bloomfield's two-run double capped a three-run third inning for Toledo.
- Wilmington answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to trim Toledo's lead to 3-2.
- UNCW took a 4-3 lead with another pair of scores in the bottom of the fourth.
- Toledo put two runners on in the seventh inning but could not score.
