PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. – Sophomore Bence Bertenyi and junior Mason Deal each carded one-over par 72s to lead the Toledo men's golf team in Monday's first round at the Pauma Valley Invitational. The Rockets are in 13th place in the team standings at six-over par at the par 71, 7,311-yard Pauma Valley Country Club.  The tournament field consists of six of the nation's top 10 teams and nine of the top 20.
Bertenyi was consistent throughout his round with pars on every hole except a bogey on the 14th hole.
Deal led the Rockets with six birdies and was at two-under par through 16 holes until notching a bogey on the 17th hole and a double-bogey on the 18th hole.
No. 15 Tennessee leads the 17-team field at 11-under, with No. 13 Ole Miss three strokes behind. Oklahoma State's Preston Stout and LSU's Jay Mendell are leading all individuals at six-under par.
The second and third rounds will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday with tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees beginning at 8:00 a.m. PT.
