Rockets plate two runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn win over Bobcats
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up their first Mid-American Conference win of the season with a 7-6 decision over Ohio at Scott Park on Saturday afternoon.
Shortstop Eli Enriquez led the offense, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and scoring three runs, including the game winning run on an error in the bottom of the sixth after Samantha Bolding crushed a solo home run to even the contest earlier in the frame. Bolding now has four home runs this season and sits at 17 for her career. Sophomore Audrey Miller got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, marking her fourth of the season.
Katie McDonald (3-4) earned the start in the circle, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just three runs. It marks her second-straight win and third overall on the season.
Quoting Head Coach Jessica Bracamonte
"I'm really proud of the way we came out and fought today. We came out strong and found a way to finish strong. There were moments throughout the game we could have let it get too big for us, but we stayed the course and kept chipping away. We saw some big-time clutch hitting from our offense which is something we have been waiting for so I'm glad it showed up on time for today. Great overall team win."
Up Next
Toledo will conclude the series against Ohio on Sunday, March 15 with a doubleheader at Scott Park. Game one will begin at 12:00 p.m.
