Annika Munson wins her sixth-straight singles match of the season on Friday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win over Youngstown State at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo, Ohio on Friday afternoon.
UT (5-4) earned wins on five out of six singles courts and picked up the doubles point. Junior Gaby Rondon clinched match point with a straight-set victory on the No. 6 singles court.
On the No. 4 singles court, sophomore Annika Munson picked up her sixth-consecutive singles victory with a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Freshman Anastasia Akuginova earned her sixth singles victory of the dual season with a straight-set win on the No. 5 court. Isabella Barretto tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court while JJ Scholten earned a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win on the No. 1 court to round out the Rocket singles wins.
UT also won the doubles court as Neha Guru and Barretto recorded a 7-5 win on the No. 1 court and Rondon and Akuginova combined for a 6-4 victory on the No. 2 court.
Quoting Head Coach Tracy Mauntler
"We had a dominant effort today. We played with a lot of confidence even if we didn't play the best tennis on every court. It's really important to figure out how to win when we aren't playing perfectly."
Up Next
Toledo will head to Florida for two matchups next week. The Rockets will face FGCU on Tuesday, March 3 and Furman on Wednesday, March 4. Both matches are set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
