Reinstetle led program to 32-win season and MAC Championship Game appearance in 2025
TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo Vice President and Director of Athletics Bryan B. Blair has announced the extension of Head Baseball Coach Rob Reinstetle's contract through the 2029 season on Thursday.
Entering his seventh season leading Toledo, Reinstetle has put together 144 victories, two 30-win seasons, seven MAC Tournament victories in three appearances, a MAC Championship Game appearance last season, and has produced multiple major award winners and MLB Draft picks.
"We are proud to extend Coach Reinstetle's contract," said Blair. "Rob has built a winning program with clear upward momentum, and his ability to develop student-athletes into high-level contributors and future professionals speaks for itself. That momentum—highlighted by last year's run to the MAC Championship Game—positions Toledo Baseball extremely well as we continue to elevate facilities and program support. I'm excited about what's ahead for Toledo Baseball."
"I would like to start by thanking President Holloway, Mr. Blair, and Associate AD Tim Warga," said Reinstetle. "Their dedication and support to Toledo baseball and myself is outstanding. With new facilities on the horizon, this extension provides our staff and players with stability through the 2029 season, creating an opportunity to build upon the foundation that we have worked hard to create over the past six years. We have our sights set on developing elite student-athletes and competing for championships. Our daily mission is to recruit, develop, challenge and create positive relationships with our players, and I am humbled and proud to lead that mission.
"I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to my coaching staff and our support staff. The honor of being the head coach of this program would not be possible without their dedication, loyalty, and expertise. I have so much love and appreciation for our people. They are selfless teammates who are deeply committed to the success of our student-athletes. Finally, thank you to the many players I have had the privilege to coach and grow with, and how they've represented our program and each other on and off the field. Without their contributions, none of us would be able to do the job we love. We wake up every day with their development at the forefront of our minds. I am proud of the hard work we have all done together, and I look forward to exceeding our standards and the continued growth of our program."
Reinstetle's program has won at least 23 games in each full season under his tenure, including 32 in 2025. Toledo pulled off a historic run last season, making the MAC Championship Game for the first time in 16 years. To get there, Toledo won a program-record four games in the MAC Tournament, including three elimination games. The Rockets also achieved their highest-ranked win in program history over No. 12 Oregon and defeated three opponents that played in the NCAA Regional. Finally, Toledo won twice over Big Ten Conference opponents last season (Oregon, Ohio State). Since 2012, both of Toledo's 30-win seasons have been under Reinstetle, with 33 wins in 2022 and 32 last year.
Toledo players have consistently achieved recognition in MAC, regional and national honors under Reinstetle. He has coached three MAC major award winners – 2021 MAC Player of the Year Chris Meyers, 2023 MAC Player of the Year Jeron Williams and 2025 MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year Brady Sasse. Toledo has totaled 21 MAC postseason awards under Reinstetle, and the six players selected to conference postseason teams in 2023 tied the most in program history. UT players in Meyers, Williams and Garret Pike (2024) have also earned four All-American and three All-Region selections under Reinstetle.
Reinstetle has produced five MLB Draft picks who have gone on to shine in the pros. Most recently, pitcher RJ Shunck was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 16th round in 2025. In the minor leagues this year, Grant Umberger, a 2024 graduate, was promoted to high single-A in the Chicago White Sox organization. Meyers, a 2021 Detroit Tigers' 13th-round selection, has won two Eastern League championships with double-A Erie and was the league's Player of the Month in June for this season.
Toledo has held a standard of academic excellence under Reinstetle, with a team GPA above 3.2 in every semester in which he has been head coach. Most recently, Toledo set a program record with a team GPA of 3.558 in the Fall 2025 semester. Toledo has had 50 Academic All-MAC selections and 13 College Sports Communicators/CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, including the maximum of five Academic All-District picks in 2025.
Rocket student-athletes have also shown leadership in the community under Reinstetle's tutelage, logging hundreds of hours of community service time each year. Former team captain Caden Konczak (2022-2025) represented Toledo as a MAC Medal of Excellence recipient as a senior. Current student-athlete Troy Sudbrook was the Mid-American Conference's male student-athlete representative at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership forum in November.
Reinstetle begins his seventh season leading the Rockets on Feb. 13 at Memphis.
