Rocket infielders selected through a team vote in the fall
TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior infielder Charlie Scholvin and redshirt junior infielder Troy Sudbrook will lead the Toledo baseball program on the field as team captains for the 2026 season, it was announced today.
Scholvin will be a team captain for the second season in a row, while Sudbrook was selected for the first time. The duo was nominated and selected by a vote among team members at the end of the fall.
"When you are a captain, it goes beyond a title," said Head Coach Rob Reinstetle. "You must carry yourself the right way, do all the little things, show compassion and care for your teammates, while also not being afraid to hold everyone accountable to our program's standards. I was blown away that we had so many players receive votes. Both Charlie and Troy are very deserving of the honor to be captains. They possess all the characteristics of a true leader. Their teammates recognized that, and I couldn't agree more with the selections."
Scholvin put together a strong 2025 campaign as the Rockets' everyday shortstop, hitting .305 with a .465 on-base percentage, five home runs, 31 RBIs, 44 runs scored and 11 doubles. He also drew 34 hit-by-pitches. Scholvin had a .959 fielding percentage last season as well. He was a CSC Academic All-District and an Academic All-MAC selection as well.
Sudbrook started all 61 games for Toledo last season, hitting .279 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs, 15 doubles and 39 runs scored. Sudbrook finished the regular season on a tear, batting 8-for-12 in the Central Michigan series and earning Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors. He was an Academic All-District and Academic All-MAC selection. Sudbrook is also the vice president of Toledo's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and represented the MAC at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in the fall.
The Rockets open their 2026 season on Friday, Feb. 13 at Memphis with a three-game series against the Tigers.
