Konczak, Mikonowicz to be honored at 2025 MAC Honors Dinner in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo senior student-athletes Caden Konczak of baseball and Sammi Mikonowicz of women's basketball were chosen as Toledo's MAC Medal of Excellence recipients for the 2024-25 athletic year.

The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Mid-American Conference Honors Dinner on Thursday, May 29th in Cleveland.

Konczak just wrapped up a senior season where he was a Second-Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament Team selection. He led the Rockets with a .306 average, 70 hits, 13 home runs, 15 doubles, 124 total bases and a .541 slugging percentage, and was error-free in right field. The 13 home runs were tied for 10th in the league and the 15 doubles were tied for 13th. He was also voted by his teammates to be a team captain this season. The Lewis Center, Ohio native is a CSC Academic All-District and a two-time Academic All-MAC selection. He graduated with a degree in information systems.

Mikonowicz finished a five-year career all over the record books and with three MAC regular-season titles and one MAC Tournament crown. Mikonowicz garnered a Second-Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament Team pick in 2024-25, after leading the Rockets to a fourth-consecutive top-two league finish. She led the Rockets in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg) and steals (1.2 spg), adding 43 assists (1.3 apg), and shot 52.4% from the field and 81.4% from the free throw line. She was fourth in the league in field-goal percentage and ninth in free-throw percentage and rebounding average. Mikonowicz holds Toledo career records in games played (160), minutes played (1,215) and rebounds (1,110). The Rossford, Ohio native is a two-time All-MAC, a three-time CSC Academic All-District and a four-time Academic All-MAC pick. She graduated from Toledo with a degree in university studies.

Both Konczak and Mikonowicz led their respective teams to appearances in the MAC Tournament Championship Game this season. As the No. 5 seed, baseball won elimination games against Eastern Michigan, Ball State and Kent State in the MAC Tournament to reach its first conference title game since 2009. Women's basketball, a No. 2 seed in the tournament, reached its 16th MAC title game all-time and second in three seasons, knocking out Central Michigan and Buffalo in the tournament.

In the classroom, both contributed to high marks for the baseball and women's basketball programs. Baseball completed a 12th-straight semester with a team GPA above 3.2 under Rob Reinstetle in spring 2025. Women's basketball led the department in the fall with a 3.820 GPA and its 3.857 mark in the spring was the highest semester team GPA in program history.

The MAC Medal of Excellence Award is awarded to one graduating male and female student-athlete from each of the league's 12 member institutions. Selected individuals exemplify athletic and academic excellence while showing leadership qualities at the university and in the community.
