Toledo to Compete in MAC Championships Starting on Sunday

Rockets playing 18 holes each day Sunday-Tuesday at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo men's golf team will travel to Grove City, Ohio this weekend to compete in the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Rockets will be one of nine schools competing for the opportunity to play in the 2025 NCAA Regionals.
The three-day, 54-hole event will take place on Sunday-Tuesday, April 27-29 at the Pinnacle Golf Club, a par-72, 7,180-yard layout that also hosted last year's MAC Women's Golf Championships and the 2023 Ohio Golf Mid AM Championship. Eighteen holes will be played each day with 9:00 a.m. tee times being utilized for all three rounds.
Senior CJ van Wyk leads the Rockets with a 72.1 stroke average, with senior Jamie Butler ranking second at 72.2. The remainder of UT's lineup will include junior Mads Jensen (73.2), freshman Bence Bertenyi (73.2) and freshman Julius Lange (73.7). Sophomore Mason Deal (74.2) also will have the opportunity to compete as a substitute in the second or third round.
Kent State is the top-ranked team in the field at No. 78 in the Scoreboard Clippd rankings. Also appearing the Top 150 nationally are Miami (96), Toledo (119), Northern Illinois (132), Ball State (146), and Eastern Michigan (147).

LAST YEAR AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Former Rocket Barend Botha captured medalist honors at each of the last two MAC Championships. He became the first individual in 34 years to capture back-to-back outright conference titles with last year's three-stroke victory. Miami's Sean Gorgone was the last to accomplish the feat by winning the event in 1989 and 1990.
ROCKETS AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
• The Rockets have won three league crowns in school history in 1964, 2002 and 2004.
• Toledo also has posted runner-up finishes at the MAC Championships on 11 occasions (1963, 1966, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2013, 2015 and 2022).
• The Rockets have posted a third-place finish or higher in three of the last five MAC Championships,
• Seven Rockets have captured MAC medalist honors. Tim Hirt won three titles (1979, 1980, 1981) with Barend Botha collecting two championships. Also winning a MAC title were Duncan McNeill (2019), Ciaran McAleavey (2008), Brad Heaven (2004), and Mike Stone (1992).Tim Rice tied for first place in 1997, and Jamie Tofte Nielsen finished in a three-way tie for first in 2022.
