Toledo Sweeps MAC Player of the Week Honors for Second-Straight Week

Poonthong Komolpisut earns Singles Player of the Week; Hanamichi Carvajal and Komolpisut tabbed Doubles Team of the Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team swept Mid-American Conference weekly honors for the second consecutive week on Monday. Sophomore Poonthong Komolpisut was named Singles Player of the Week, while Hanamichi Carvajal and Komolpisut earned Doubles Team of the Week after the Rockets defeated UIC and Northern Illinois last week.
Komolpisut went undefeated on the No. 1 singles court last week. Against UIC, Komolpisut defeated Artem Alekseychuk 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to clinch match point and earn a 4-3 win over the Flames. In his matchup against Northern Illinois, Komolpisut recorded a straight set win over NIU's Iker Gaztambide, 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore has tallied three-straight singles match wins and helped Toledo move to 8-0 in home matches this season.
Carvajal and Komolpisut picked up two wins on the No. 1 doubles court last week. The duo grabbed a 6-4 win against UIC and picked up a 6-1 win against NIU to help the Rockets clinch the doubles point in both matches. Carvajal and Komolpisut have recorded three-straight wins in doubles play and own a 3-0 record together.
This is Komolpisut's third and fourth weekly honors of the season and Carvajal's second of the year.
Toledo hosts Ball State on Thursday, March 27 and Western Michigan on Saturday, March 29. First serve against the Cardinals is set for 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. versus the Broncos. Locations vary depending on weather, with play at Shadow Valley Tennis Club (indoors) or UT Varsity Tennis Courts (outdoors).
