Rockets Travel to Bowling Green for Battle of I-75 Matchup on Saturday

Toledo looks for regular-season sweep of rival Falcons at Stroh Center

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team will make the short trip to Bowling Green for the second installment of the Battle of I-75 this season on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. from the Stroh Center. The game will air on ESPN+ with radio broadcasts on WSPD 1370 AM/92.9 FM and The Varsity Network app.
 
The Rockets (19-5, 10-3 MAC) have won seven games in a row and are second in the MAC standings. Toledo will clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament in Cleveland with a victory or a Northern Illinois loss. The Falcons (14-11, 7-6 MAC) enter the game winners of three straight and are in sixth place in the league.
 
Last time out, the Rockets defeated Ball State, 70-66, in Savage Arena, to hand the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season. Sammi Mikonowicz finished with 23 points on 7-of-14 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free throw line, adding eight rebounds and three steals. Toledo is 6-3 on the road this season, having won three-straight road games.
 
The Falcons defeated Western Michigan on the road, 70-63, on Wednesday. Amy Velasco led BG with 15 points while Johnea Donahue added 13 on 5-of-5 from the floor. Bowling Green is 8-2 in the Stroh Center this season.
 
The all-time series is tied at 45-45, with Toledo winning five straight heading into Saturday's game. The Rockets were victorious in an 80-68 decision at Savage Arena on Jan. 25.

Superb Sammi
  • Rossford, Ohio native Sammi Mikonowicz shined for a Toledo-high 23 points on Wednesday, the second-most points of her career.
  • She has reached 20 points in a game four times this season.
  • Her three steals matched a season high and contributed to 11 steals on the day, Toledo's most in a conference game this season.
  • In league ranks, she is fifth in field goal percentage (50.0%), eighth in rebounds (6.3) and free throw percentage (82.5%), and 11th in scoring average (13.4).
  • Mikonowicz is now 11th on Toledo's all-time scoring charts, with 1,478 points all-time.
Rocket-Powered Defense
  • In its seven-game winning streak, Toledo has not allowed an opponent to reach 70 points and has held five opponents below 60 points.
  • Toledo held Ball State leading scorer Ally Becki in check on Wednesday, limiting her to seven points, which tied a season low. Becki also committed a season-high seven turnovers.
  • The Rockets also held Ball State to just 25.0% (5-of-20) from three-point range, including just 1-of-12 in the first half.
  • In conference games, Toledo leads the league in three-point defense, allowing just 3.7 threes made/game and a 25.5% opponent three-point percentage.
Rebounding Rockets
  • Since Dec. 6, Toledo has out-rebounded 16 of its 18 opponents.
