Second-Half Runs Pull No. 21 Ohio State Away from Rockets

Ella Weaver scores career-high 21 points with four three-pointers
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team held tight with No. 21 Ohio State throughout the first 20 minutes, but two big second-half runs doomed the Rockets in a 85-60 decision at the Schottenstein Center on Sunday.
Â
The Rockets (3-5) took a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter and kept within four, 37-33 at the halftime mark. However, runs of 11-1 in the third quarter and 16-2 in the fourth quarter were enough for Ohio State to put the game out of reach.
Â
The Rockets were unable to overcome a 31-12 turnover margin. Rebounds were near even, favoring the Buckeyes, 34-32. Toledo held advantages in three-point field goals (6-3) and free throws made (12-10).
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"I thought we were prepared and when we executed things we did a tremendous job. However, there were lulls in the third and fourth quarter where we needed to be more mature and tough. It's a really hard environment to play in and that's why we came here. I think we got what we wanted in terms of being in adverse situations, so we can come together and grow from it, and be prepared for an NCAA Tournament game."
Â
(On Ella Weaver's career-high day)
"Ella is a process-oriented player. She's been in the gym all season, all summer, and we found her today. Kendall Carruthers especially was looking for her and did a great job of finding her. Now, that lid is off – Weaver's a confident player when she's hitting shots for us. She got going with her toughness, trying to attack the rim, getting fouled and getting rebounds on the defensive end."
