Kendall Carruthers leads Toledo with 19 points
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team dropped the back end of this week's homestand, falling to Northern Iowa 68-52 at Savage Arena on Saturday. Â
Â
The Rockets (3-4) battled back-and-forth with the Panthers (4-4) early on, with the Panthers holding a 27-23 edge at halftime. After UNI extended the lead to double digits in the second half, Toledo closed to within two early in the fourth. However, UNI responded and widened its edge the rest of the way.
Â
Toledo won the rebounding battle, 39-31, but UNI held the 19-11 advantage in turnovers. From the floor, the Panthers out-shot the Rockets, 47.3% to 36.5%.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"We knew this was going to be a tough game, and it was as advertised. They're a very good basketball team in a great league and are very well-coached. We were prepared for their defense but just didn't execute. It's a good lesson for our young players – we have to execute the plan, stay together and play together. Great game for us to learn from and I'm excited to move forward."
