Rockets' offense explodes for 14 runs and 18 hits

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Toledo softball team fell to UNC Greensboro, 16-14, in nine innings on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Spiro Classic in Greensboro, N.C.

Toledo scored a season-high 14 runs on 18 hits. The 18 hits rank third all-time in a game in program history. The Rockets scored runs in seven of the nine innings played, including a five-run second inning that put UT ahead by a 7-5 margin.

Three Rockets homered highlighted by freshman Audrey Miller blasting a grand slam in the second for the first homer of her collegiate career. Senior Sidney Griffith slugged her third career homer, and freshman Samantha Bolding collected her second home run of the season.

Griffith's two-run home put Toledo in front, 13-11, in the eighth inning. Toledo also took a 14-13 lead in the ninth on senior Maris Barbato's run-scoring single up the middle.

Toledo tallied double-figure hits (18) and RBIs (14) for the third time this season.

Bolding and Griffith led the team with three runs each.
