Sophomore earns award after winning the MAC Individual Singles Championship
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo sophomore JJ Scholten has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Scholten earned the award after winning the MAC Individual Singles Championship in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Sunday. Scholten won four singles matchups throughout the weekend against conference opponents and played freshman teammate Isabella Barretto in the championship match.
The sophomore tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory to capture the title and earn the automatic bid into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Conference Masters Tournament in San Diego, Calif. on Nov. 6-9. She picked up where she left off in the 2025 dual season after posting a 17-0 singles record and being named the MAC Freshman of the Year.
The Arlington, Va. native is majoring in neuroscience and holds a 3.959 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, be at a sophomore or higher academic standing and have a worthy performance during the week's competition. One male and one female student-athlete from the conference is selected each week.Â
