Toledo Splits Squad Between Penn State and Akron Meets This Weekend

Rockets are set to compete in the Penn State National Open and Akron Invitational
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track and field team is set to compete in two meets this weekend. Distance runners are heading to the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa. from Friday-Saturday, and sprinters and jumpers will participate in the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio on Friday.
Running events at the Penn State National Open begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and will continue at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both days of competition at Penn State will be streamed on B1G+. At the Akron Invitational, track events will start at 3:30 p.m. with field events following at 4:00 p.m.
In last weekend's action, senior Laura Nicholson won the mile event with a time of 4:35.61Â at the Notre Dame Invitational to record the third-fastest time in school history. The Cork, Ireland native also took second in the 800m with a mark of 2:07.99, recording the second-best time in history. Nicholson owns the best time in the Mid-American Conference in both events. She was named the Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week for her performances.
Also at Notre Dame, Cadence Christie took fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:11.17 while Alex Bauer placed sixth with a mark of 2:11.94. Mercy Kinyanjui earned sixth-place in the mile with a final time of 4:44.75.
Also last weekend, senior Samantha Thomas took first in the 400m with a time of 55.99 while senior Mayson Bates placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.87 at the Bob Parks Memorial meet in Ypsilanti, Mich.. Senior Sydney Caddell brought home silver in the long jump with a mark of 5.61m.
