SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Toledo women's volleyball team fell to Idaho State, 3-1 (20-25,25-21,23-25,18-25), in the final match of the Jackrabbit Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Toledo (7-5) went back and forth with the Bengals all afternoon in a match that saw 23 ties and 12 lead changes in the second, third and fourth sets.
The Rockets had three players tally double figure kills, with
Taylor Alt and
Izzy Granger leading the way with 16 each. Alt added 11 digs for her second consecutive double-double and her fourth of the season while Granger added seven digs of her own. Redshirt freshman
Sierra Pertzborn recorded 11 terminations, her third career match with 10-plus kills, and racked up four blocks.

Macy Hatkevich had 38 assists on the afternoon. Graduate setter
Ella Abraham recorded 14 assists and 12 digs, her first double-double as a Rocket.
"We ran into a great team today that got a ton of momentum from their last win," said head coach
Jason Oliver. "It was tough to break them down and we had a little hangover from our match last night. I know that steel sharpens steel, and this weekend will really get us sharp for conference play to start."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-20 Idaho State)
- Idaho State used a 5-1 run for an early advantage and extended the lead to as many as eight points.
- Toledo fired off a 3-0 run to get within five, 14-9, behind kills from Anna Alford and Taylor Alt.
- A termination from Sierra Pertzborn got the Rockets within two, 18-16.
- Caylee Sharkey kept Toledo within striking distance, 22-19, but Idaho State grabbed three of the final four points to take the first set.
Set Two (25-21 Toledo)
- Two quick kills from Izzy Granger and Sharkey put Toledo ahead, 7-5.
- A 5-0 surge by the Rockets, highlighted by a service ace from Macy Hatkevich and a solo block from Kayla Ozanich, extended the lead to five, 13-7.
- Olivia Heitkamp and Pertzborn went up for a block and pushed Toledo's lead to eight, 18-10.
- Idaho State used a 4-0 run to get within two, but a kill from Pertzborn and an ace from Grace Freiberger helped Toledo keep the lead at three, 22-19.
- Back-to-back kills from Alt and Granger secured the set win and tied the match, 1-1.
Set Three (25-23 Idaho State)
- Both sides traded points, but a 4-0 run for the Bengals gave Idaho State a 13-8 advantage.
- Toledo kept the set within three points thanks to kills from Granger and Pertzborn, 17-14.
- Back-to-back terminations from Ozanich and Granger put Toledo in front by one, 21-20.
- Three consecutive points from Idaho State put the Bengals up, 23-21, and they took the set win off a kill.
Set Four (25-18 Idaho State)
- Toledo and Idaho State went back and forth early in the set. The Bengals used a 3-0 run to get out to a three-point lead of the set, 15-12.
- Idaho State extended their lead to six but a solo block from Macy Hatkevich kept the Rockets within five, 20-15.
- The Bengals got to match point and the Rockets rattled off two quick kills from Granger and Heitkamp to cut into the lead, 24-18. Idaho State took the match off a kill.
UP NEXT
Toledo opens MAC play at Savage Arena, as the Rockets host Northern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. Friday's match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m., with Saturday's set scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
