Three Rockets finish in Top 20
VERONA, N.Y. – Three Rockets finished in the Top 20 to help the Toledo men's golf team to a fourth-place finish in Boston College's Red Bandanna Invitational in its opening tournament of the 2024-25 season. Sophomore Marijn Hoogeveen led the way for UT by tying for ninth place with a four-over par 220 (73-69-78) at the par-72, 7,105-yard Turning Stone Resort's Kaluyhat Course.
The Rockets posted a team score of 34-over par 898, trailing the host Eagles (867), North Dakota State (885) and Sacred Heart (888).
Sophomore Mason Deal tied for 14th place at nine-over par 225, while junior Mads Jensen tied for 16th place at 10-over par 226. Freshman Bence Bertenyi carded the Rockets' best round of the day with a three-over par 75 and tied for 21st place at 12-over par 228.
Junior Arav Patel rounded out UT's lineup by tying for 32nd place at 21-over par 237.
"This tournament is one we can learn a lot from and I think it will be an experience from which we can grow from," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "Losing four guys from last year who were so vital and instrumental to our program over the last few years is tough. We did have some positives, but as you can imagine there is plenty for us to to work on. The season is young and so is our team."
Toledo is back in action next week when it returns home to host the Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 9-10. Thirteen of the 14 programs competing in the tournament were represented in NCAA postseason play last year as a team or individually, highlighted by defending national champion Auburn. The tournament field also includes Cal Poly, Clemson, College of Charleston, Louisville, Michigan, Oklahoma, Purdue, SMU, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Wake Forest.Â
