Toledo Begins 2024 Season at Binghamton's Bearcat Classic

Rockets set to take on three teams in two days

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's volleyball team starts its 2024 season at Binghamton's Bearcat Classic in Vestal, N.Y. on Aug. 30-31. 

The Rockets open up competition on Friday at 1 p.m. against Bucknell and wrap up the day taking on host Binghamton at 7 p.m. The team will close out the Bearcat Classic at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Merrimack.

ROCKET NOTES

  • Toledo returns three starters from the 2023 squad: fifth-year seniorTaylor Alt, junior Izzy Granger and sophomore Macy Hatkevich.
  • Alt was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team on Monday. She is the program's all-time leader in kills (1,707), kills per set (4.00) and attacks (4,559).
  • The Rockets welcome in five newcomers to the fold, including three freshmen and two transfers.
  • Jason Oliver is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Rockets. He is the first coach ever to guide the Rockets to back-to-back winning seasons in MAC play and has led UT to a 32-22 (.593) ledger in conference action over the past three years.

SCOUTING THE BISON

  • Bucknell returns many of its starters and welcomes three freshmen to the 2024 squad.
  • The Bison went 15-11 (11-5 Patriot League) during the 2023 season including a trip to the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
  • Bucknell was selected to finish third in the Patriot League this season. Jordan Hardy was named Preseason Libero of the Year, while Sidney Shaffer was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS

  • Binghamton returns 10 letterwinners from a 2023 squad that went 15-13 (6-4 America East) and played in the America East Championship.
  • The Bearcats were selected to finish second in the America East this season.
  • Two members of the Bearcats team, Tsvetelina Illea and Misa Dlouha, were named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. 

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

  • Merrimack finished with an overall record of 7-21 (6-8 MAAC) in the 2023 season.
  • Senior Julz Carlat led the team in kills (287) and kills per set (3.09) during the past season.
  • The Warriors added five newcomers, including three freshmen and two transfers, for the 2024 campaign.

SERIES STUFF
The Rockets lead the all-time series against Bucknell, 1-0. Their lone meeting came on Sept. 5, 2018 in Akron, Ohio. 

Toledo owns a 2-0 all-time record against Binghamton, with the last matchup happening Aug. 28, 2010 in Toledo, Ohio.

This is the first meeting between Merrimack and Toledo. 

UP NEXT
Toledo will head to the Cyclone Invitational in Ames, Iowa on Sept. 5-7. The Rockets will face host Iowa State, Illinois and Wake Forest.
