
Former Rocket Otto Black to Compete in U.S. Open This Week

Pinckney, Mich. native is first Toledo golfer to participate in event since 2009
TOLEDO, Ohio - Former Rocket golfer Otto Black will compete in the 124th United States Open this week at the Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (Course No. 2) in Pinehurst, N.C. He is the first Rocket to compete in the event since Doug Batty played in the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage State Park's Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
A Pinckney, Mich. native, Black will tee off in the first round on Thursday, June 13 at 2:42 p.m. His second-round tee time on Friday, June 14 is scheduled for 8:57 a.m.
Black was added to the field on Monday as the first alternate from the Columbus, Ohio final qualifier, where he originally lost a 4-for-3 playoff for the last spot. He posted a 36-hole total of nine-under 133 (68-65) at the qualifier.
Black advanced to the final qualifier by shooting an eight-under par 64 in local qualifying at the Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club in Naples, Fla.
Black received First-Team All-MAC honors as a junior and senior and Second-Team All-MAC honors as a sophomore and freshman. He also was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2013. Black also competed in the NCAA Regionals on one occasion.
Since graduating from UT in 2016, Black has competed professionally on the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Americas.
