Toledo to Face No.12 Seed Ohio State in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Rockets to face Buckeyes at 1:00 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team will make its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday, May 4 against No.12 seed Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
The match will follow the Wake Forest-Vanderbilt contest at 10:00 a.m. The winners of both matches will meet in the second round on Sunday, May 5 at noon.
Admission and parking are free. All matches will be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex but will be played in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center if inclement weather forces competition to move indoors.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo (18-5) made history last Sunday by capturing its first Mid-American Conference Tournament title in program history with a 4-1 victory over Miami in front of a packed home crowd at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. The Rockets had reached the final of the last three MAC Championships before breaking through this season. Senior Cassie Alcala recorded her 100th career singles victory to clinch match point and punch the Rockets' first ticket into the NCAA Tournament. Alcala was named First-Team All-MAC for the fourth time in her career, selected to the MAC All-Tournament team, and named MAC Tournament MVP. Senior Sloane Teske joined Alcala as a First-Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament selection, while senior Shalini Tallamraju earned Second-Team All-MAC honors for a second straight season.
NCAA First and Second Round
No. 12 seed Ohio State (19-7) won a season-high 12 consecutive matches until it fell to Michigan in the 2024 Big Ten Championship title match 4-2 on Sunday. Luciana Perry was named 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was joined on All-Big Ten Team by Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff. Siemers and Perry were selected as at-large individuals to play at the NCAA DI Women's Tennis Championships, with the duo of Perry and Ratliff qualifying as an at-large doubles team for the tournament in Stillwater, Okla. later this month.
The Buckeyes are making their 10th consecutive appearance in the national tournament and 20th overall in program history. The Buckeyes have hosted the national tournament in 2016, '17, '21, '22, and '23.

- Alcala and Teske were the first Rockets to advance to an ITA Super Regional event with an 8-4 upset over the No.1 seeded doubles team of OSU's Madeline Atway and Shelly Bereznyak on Sept. 21, 2021.
- Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski defeated the Buckeyes'Â Atway and Teah Chavez 8-6 at the ITA Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, Mich. last fall.
- Toledo has never played Wake Forest or Vanderbilt in dual competition.
