TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 1 seed Toledo women's tennis team will open the 2024 Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Championships this Friday, April 26 against No. 4 seed Eastern Michigan at 10:00 a.m. at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. The winner of the Toledo-Eastern Michigan match will play the winner of No.2 seed Miami and No.3 seed Western Michigan, who play at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

Weather permitting, all matches in the tournament will be played outdoors at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. If a match needs to be moved indoors due to inclement weather, it will be played at Twos Athletic Club.

Toledo earned the right to host this year's MAC Championship by winning the 2023 regular season championship. The Rockets will also host the 2025 MAC Women's Tennis Championships after earning this season's regular season title.

Last Time on the Court
Toledo bounced back after its first conference loss to EMU on April 14 and won back-to-back matches against Buffalo and Ball State last week. The Rockets' win over the Bulls clinched its second consecutive MAC Championship with a 9-1 conference record. Senior Cassie Alcala was named MAC Singles Player of the Week, and Doubles Team of the Week honors with partner Julia Kuszynski.

Toledo at the MAC Championships

Toledo has finished runner-up in the last two MAC Championship Tournaments, falling to Ball State 4-3 in 2022 and again to the Cardinals 4-1 in 2023.
Alcala was named 2021 MAC Freshman of the Year, 2022 MAC Player of the Year, and 2023 MAC Co-Player of the Year, and is also a three-time First Team All-MAC honoree.
Senior Sloane Teske is also a three-time All-MAC honoree and a 2022 MAC All-Tournament selection.
Senior Shalini Tallamraju earned Second-Team All-MAC honors and is a two-time MAC All-Tournament selection. She has won her last six matches this season, mostly from the No. 4 court, and has a 9-1 conference record.
Tracy Mauntler was named 2023 MAC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career.
