Toledo Sweeps Final MAC Player of the Week Awards

Cassie Alcala receives MAC Singles Player of the Week as well as Doubles Team of the Week with Julia Kuszynski
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo seniors Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski swept the final Mid-American Conference Player of the Week awards, the league announced on Tuesday. Alcala was named MAC Singles Player of the Week for the second time this year and was also tabbed Doubles Team of the Week with Kuszynski for the second time this season.
Alcala was perfect from the No.1 singles court to help Toledo take down Buffalo and Ball State last week and secure Toledo's second consecutive Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship. Alcala put Toledo at match point, losing only three games in a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Buffalo's Jagmeet Kaur. Alcala clinched match point against BSU's Annika Planinsek (6-3, 6-1) on Sunday afternoon. Alcala is 16-5 this spring and is 8-2 against MAC opponents.
Toledo's No.1 duo was also perfect against their Buffalo and Ball State counterparts this weekend to help clinch both doubles points. Alcala and Kuszynski blanked UB's Ambre Amat/ Esmee Andresen 6-0 and defeated BSU's Sarah Shahbaz/ Isabelle Tanjuatco in a 7-5 final. Alcala and Kuszynski are 10-2 together this season with an 8-0 league record, and have won their last eight matches together.
Toledo (16-5, 9-1 MAC) is the No.1 seed and host for the 2024 MAC Championships. The Rockets play No. 4 seed Eastern Michigan on Friday, April 26 in the semifinal match at 10:00 a.m. at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
