TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 3 seed Toledo men's tennis team will look to defend its Mid-American Conference Tournament title beginning this Saturday, April 20 at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. The No.1 seed Western Michigan (16-5, 8-2 MAC) will play No. 4 Ball State (12-9, 6-4 MAC) at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Rockets (12-10, 7-3 MAC) vs. No. 2 Northern Illinois (18-5, 7-3 MAC) at 2:00 p.m.

Weather permitting, all matches will be played outdoors at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. Otherwise, if the matches need to be moved indoors, they will be played at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

Toledo earned hosting rights by winning the 2023 regular-season championship. The Rockets and Huskies both ended the season with a 7-3 MAC record, and NIU earned the No. 2 seed by tiebreaker.

Last Time Out
Toledo closed out the regular season on a four-match winning streak, defeating Buffalo for the second time this season and sending its senior class out with a win last Saturday at home, 5-2. Junior Hanamichi Carvajal clinched against the Bulls, his first match point since joining the Rockets' squad in January of this year. Senior Pawit Sornlaksup has won his last five matches and takes a 14-2 dual record into this weekend's tournament, while Carvajal (14-5) and senior Marko Galic (8-13) have each won their last three matches.

Toledo at the MAC Championships

Toledo's last appearance at the MAC Tournament was in 2023, when it defeated Western Michigan 4-3 for its first tournament title since 1973.
Toledo has eight conference titles in program history: 1966, '67, '68, '69, '70, '71, '73, and '23.
Head Coach Al Wermer was named Toledo's first MAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2023.
Sornlaksup is the two-time defending MAC Player of the Year, a two-time First-Team All-MAC selection, a two-time MAC All-Tournament Team, and the 2023 MAC Tournament MVP. He clinched the 4-3 match point for UT over WMU in the final match of the 2023 MAC Tournament.
Sornlaksup is 27-1 against MAC opponents from the top court since 2022.
