Rockets look to clinch second outright MAC Championship title; honoring senior class before first serve vs. Bulls on Thursday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team has secured its spot in the upcoming 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament and will close out the regular season with a home match vs. Buffalo on Thursday, April 18 before heading to Ball State on Sunday, April 21. The Rockets (14-5, 7-1 MAC) will honor their seniors Cassie Alcala, Julia Kuszynski, Shalini Tallamraju, and Sloane Teske before Thursday's noon match vs. the Bulls at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.
Sunday's match in Muncie, Ind. will be the first between Toledo and Ball State since the final match of the 2023 MAC Championship, where the Cardinals won the crown in a 4-1 decision. UT defeated Buffalo earlier this season, 6-1, on March 22 in Buffalo, NY.
With a win on Thursday, Toledo will clinch back-to-back MAC Championship titles and the No.1 tournament seed.
Toledo will host the MAC Championships on Friday-Saturday, April 26-27. The top team from the East and West Division automatically earn a spot in the tournament, and the schools with the next two best records will also qualify.
Last Time on the Court
Toledo took down Northern Illinois on Friday before suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Eastern Michigan on Sunday. The loss ended UT's 18-match winning streak in conference play and tarnished UT's undefeated conference record this season. Senior Shalini Tallamraju, senior Julia Kuszynski, and sophomore Audrey Moutama all went 2-0 in singles play against the Huskies and Eagles. Kuszynski clinched match point vs NIU and Moutama was down a set before winning back-to-back sets against EMU's Ksyusha Saenko to tie the match at 3-3. Moutama has won her last nine matches and is the only undefeated Rocket in conference play at 8-0.

Buffalo (16-9, 3-5 MAC) is looking for a spot in the postseason after splitting its matches last weekend, defeating Ball State on Friday before falling to Miami on Sunday.
About Ball State
Defending 2023 MAC Champion Ball State (7-13, 3-4 MAC) is in its first year under the leadership of head coach Sachin Kirtane, and is also looking to secure its place in next week's conference tournament. The Cardinals lost both matches last weekend to Buffalo and Western Michigan, both by 5-2 margins.
