TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo junior centerfielder
Garret Pike was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Monday following his red-hot performance last week.
A Waterville, Ohio native, Pike enjoyed a monster week at the plate with a .529 batting average, six home runs, and 10 RBIs in four games. The junior outfielder also scored nine runs and drew three walks while registering an eye-popping 1.588 slugging percentage to help Toledo post a 3-1 record and win its Mid-American Conference series vs. Northern Illinois.
After opening the week with a homer and three RBIs vs. Youngstown State on Tuesday, Pike registered two homers in back-to-back contests to help the Rockets win the first two games of their series vs. the Huskies. He then homered for a fourth-straight game in Saturday's series finale.
Pike's big week helped him take over the team lead in batting average (.352), runs (26), home runs (9), and RBIs (26).
Toledo will host Oakland today at Scott Park at 1:30 p.m. and conclude its nine-game homestand vs. Wright State on Wednesday, April 3.
